The most active states for hail during this period were Texas (751 reports), Minnesota (701 reports), Nebraska (547 reports), Kansas (463 reports) and South Dakota (450 reports). Texas led the nation with the highest storm activity during 2022.

Hail storms cause billions of dollars in property damage each year, with roofing damage being the most common claim. Hail as small as 1" (quarter-sized) can damage asphalt shingles, while hail 1.75" (golf ball) or larger typically causes significant damage requiring roof replacement. Insurance companies generally allow claims within 1-2 years of a documented hail event.
